چکیده

Currently available data on the field of velocities Vr, Vl, Vb for open star clusters are used to perform a kinematic analysis of various samples that differ by heliocentric distance, age, and membership in individual structures (the Orion, Carina–Sagittarius, and Perseus arms). Based on 375 clusters located within 5 kpc of the Sun with ages up to 1 Gyr, we have determined the Galactic rotation parameters ω0 = −26.0±0.3 km s −1 kpc, ω 0 = 4.18 ± 0.17 km s −1 kpc, ω 0 = −0.45 ± 0.06 km s −1 kpc, the system contraction parameter K = −2.4 ± 0.1 km s kpc, and the parameters of the kinematic center R0 = 7.4± 0.3 kpc and l0 = 0± 1 . The Galactocentric distance R0 in the model used has been found to depend significantly on the sample age. Thus, for example, it is 9.5 ± 0.7 kpc and 5.6 ± 0.3 kpc for the samples of young (≤ 50 Myr) and old (> 50 Myr) clusters, respectively. Our study of the kinematics of young open star clusters in various spiral arms has shown that the kinematic parameters are similar to the parameters obtained from the entire sample for the Carina-Sagittarius and Perseus arms and differ significantly from them for the Orion arm. The contraction effect is shown to be typical of star clusters with various ages. It is most pronounced for clusters with a mean age of ≈ 100 Myr, with the contraction velocity being Kr = −4.3± 1.0 km s.

02 1 v 1 2 A ug 2 00 4 Morphology of Galactic Open Clusters

We analyzed the shapes of Galactic open clusters by the star counting technique with the 2MASS star catalog database. Morphological parameters such as the ellipticity and size have been derived via stellar density distribution, weighed by clustering probability. We find that most star clusters are elongated, even for the youngest star clusters of a few million years old, which are located near ...

Direct determination of the spiral pattern rotation speed of the Galaxy

The rotation velocity of the spiral pattern of the Galaxy is determined by direct observation of the birthplaces of open clusters of stars in the galactic disk as a function of their age. Our measurement does not depend on any specific model of the spiral structure, like the existence of a given number of spiral arms, or the presence of a bar in the central regions. This study became possible d...

Interstellar extinction towards open clusters and galactic structure

We study the distribution of interstellar matter near the galactic plane on the basis of open star clusters and reviewed the correlation of extinction with different physical parameters of the clusters to understand the galactic structure. It is seen from the extinction towards open clusters that about 90% of the absorbing material lie within −5◦ ≤ b ≤ 5◦ of the galactic plane. The mean thickne...

Photometry of neglected open clusters in the First and Fourth Galactic Quadrants

CCD BV I photometry is presented for 8 previously unstudied star clusters located in the First and Fourth Galactic Quadrants: AL 1, BH 150, NGC 5764, Lynga 9, Czernik 37, BH 261, Berkeley 80 and King 25. Color magnitude diagrams of the cluster regions suggest that several of them (BH 150, Lynga 9, Czernik 37 and BH 261 and King 25) are so embedded in the dense stellar population toward the gala...

2 D Fokker - Planck models of Rotating clusters

Globular clusters rotate significantly, and with the increasing amount of detailed morphological and kinematical data obtained in recent years on galactic globular clusters many interesting features show up. We show how our theoretical evolutionary models of rotating clusters can be used to obtain fits, which at least properly model the overall rotation and its implied kinematics in full 2D det...
